sessions on the screener

how the session selector works on the screener — NY, London, and Asian sessions, how they affect every calculation, and why getting this right matters.

summary: the screener has its own session selector that anchors every calculation in the table. choosing the right session isn't a preference — it's a data input that directly affects every report's output.

the screener's session selector is separate from the one on the reports page. changing the session in the screener doesn't affect your reports, and changing it in reports doesn't affect the screener.

the session you select is your anchor for all the live calculations running in the screener. every report column recalculates based on the session window you've chosen — so getting this right matters more than most people realize.

your session selection persists automatically — it's remembered the next time you open the screener.

available sessions

session

window (ET)

New York

9:30 AM – 4:00 PM

London

3:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Asian

overnight

getting this wrong is one of the most common reasons the screener shows unexpected results — the wrong session means the wrong IB window, the wrong gap reference close, and the wrong ORB window.

how the session affects your screener data

the session anchors the calculations for every report running in the screener:

  • gap fill — the prior session close (PSC) used as the fill target changes based on session

  • initial balance — the first-hour window shifts to match the selected session's open

  • opening range breakout — the range window shifts to match the session open

  • all other reports use the session window to define their reference periods

this is why the screener can look completely different when you switch sessions — it's not a display bug. the setups are genuinely different because the reference windows have shifted.

stocks: NY session only

if you switch to the Stocks tab, the London and Asian sessions are greyed out — only New York is available. stocks trade during regular trading hours (9:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET), so there's no London or Asian session data to work with.

this only applies when you're on the Stocks tab. if you're on Futures or All, all 3 sessions are available.

no custom sessions in the screener

unlike the reports section, the screener does not support custom sessions. you're limited to the three built-in options — NY, London, and Asian.

if you need to run setups against a custom session window, use the reports section directly. the screener is designed for quick multi-ticker scanning with standard sessions, not for custom session analysis.

sessions and templates

your session selection is saved when you create a screener template. if you trade both NY and London, you can save separate templates for each — one with NY selected and your US instruments prioritized, another with London selected and your European-hours instruments at the top. switching between them takes one click.

common questions

why does the screener look completely different when I change sessions?

because the session is the anchor for every calculation. switching from NY to London shifts the IB window, the gap reference close, and every other time-based reference. the setups are genuinely different, not a display bug.

can I run two sessions at the same time?

no — one session is active at a time. if you trade both NY and London, run London in the early morning, then switch to NY when the US market opens. if you save templates for each, switching takes one click.
