summary: if edgeful's onboarding videos won't play, it's almost always a browser extension blocking them. private mode is the fastest way to confirm — if the video plays there, you've found your culprit.

nothing about edgeful's onboarding videos is unusual technically — they're hosted on a standard video CDN and load like any other web video. when they don't play, the cause is almost always on your end. and 9 times out of 10, the culprit is a browser extension.

start with private / incognito mode

this is the fastest diagnostic. private (or incognito) mode disables every extension at once and gives you a clean browser session — so if a video plays here, you know an extension is what's blocking it in your normal browser.

  • Chrome / Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (Mac)

  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + P (Mac)

  • Safari: Cmd + Shift + N

open the onboarding page in private mode and try the video.

if it plays — an extension is the issue. move to the next step to find which one.

if it still doesn't play — skip to "other things to try" below.

find the extension that's blocking the video

once private mode confirms an extension is the cause, you just need to figure out which one. the cleanest way is to disable them one at a time.

  1. open your extensions page — chrome://extensions, edge://extensions, about:addons in Firefox, or Safari → Settings → Extensions.

  2. disable one extension.

  3. refresh the onboarding page and try the video.

  4. if it still doesn't play, re-enable that extension, disable the next one, and try again.

ad blockers (uBlock Origin, AdGuard, Brave Shields) and privacy extensions (Privacy Badger, Ghostery) are the most common culprits — start there. once you've found the one that's blocking the video, you can either leave it disabled or whitelist the edgeful domain in that extension's settings.

playback speed

once your videos are playing, you can speed them up. click the gear or settings icon in the bottom-right of the video player and pick 1.25x, 1.5x, or 2x — same as YouTube.

if you don't see the speed control, give the video a second to fully load — the controls render once the player initializes.

other things to try

if private mode didn't fix it, the issue is somewhere other than an extension. work through these:

  • VPN or corporate firewall — disconnect the VPN or get on a personal network. corporate WiFi often blocks video CDNs entirely.

  • different network — switch to your phone's hotspot for a quick test. rules out your home ISP or router.

  • different browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari all work. if the video plays in a second browser, your primary one has a deeper issue (corrupted cache, outdated version, broken settings).

  • older browser version — make sure your browser is up to date. very old versions of Safari can fail on modern video formats.

  • autoplay disabled — some browsers block videos from playing automatically. click the play button manually.

  • third-party cookies blocked — strict privacy settings can prevent the video player from loading.

if none of that works

if you've tried every step above and the videos still won't play, book a help session and we'll work through it directly. when you book, include in the notes: what browser you've tried, whether private mode worked, and whether disabling extensions made a difference. that lets us skip the basics and dig into the harder causes.
