strategy report says "this report requires trade data"

if TradingView's strategy report shows "this report requires trade data" instead of your algo backtest, the order size type is set to % of equity — here's the 10-second fix in the properties tab.

summary: if TradingView's strategy report shows this report requires trade data instead of your algo backtest, TradingView sized your orders as a % of equity — which rounds a futures order down to 0 contracts. change default order size to quantity in the algo's properties tab and the trades come back.

what you're seeing

you apply an edgeful algo to your chart and the strategy report opens like it should — but instead of an equity curve and a list of trades, the panel says this report requires trade data.

nothing is wrong with the algo, your data plan, or your chart. the strategy never placed a single trade, so there's no data for the report to show.

why it happens

TradingView's latest strategy report update changed the default order size type to % of equity. that setting sizes every order as a slice of the report's starting capital.

that works for stocks. it doesn't work for futures. one futures contract controls far more than that slice once you factor in the point value, so TradingView rounds the order down to 0 contracts — and a 0-contract order never fills. no fills, no trades, no report.

it isn't only the backtest. the number on that same line is your contracts per trade — the value your alert sends to edgeful as the order quantity. with the type on % of equity, the algo never places a trade, so no alert fires and nothing reaches your broker.

the edgeful algos are built to size in contracts, which is exactly what the quantity setting does.

the fix

  1. click the gear icon on the edgeful algo indicator to open its settings

  2. go to the properties tab

  3. on the default order size line, switch the type from % of equity to quantity

  4. the number next to it is your contracts per trade — 1 is fine while you're evaluating the algo

the strategy report recalculates as soon as you save, and your trades, equity curve, and metrics show up. if you already had a live alert on this indicator, delete and recreate it so it picks up the change.

check every algo you use

the setting is per indicator. fixing it on the ORB algo doesn't carry over to the IB or engulfing algo — open the properties tab on each one you apply.

same goes for a fresh chart or a re-added indicator. if the trades disappear again, this setting is the first thing to check.

still no trades after the fix?

then order size wasn't the only thing in the way. two more things to rule out:

if neither of those is it, reach out to support with a screenshot of the properties tab and the strategy report panel.
